Kawasaki Unveils the 2026 Z650 S: A Sharper, Smarter Middleweight for Everyday Thrills

Kawasaki has officially introduced the all-new Z650 S, a refined evolution of its popular middleweight naked bike, set to reach dealerships in January 2026. Designed to balance sportiness with everyday comfort, the new model brings updated ergonomics, fresh styling, and smarter tech to one of Kawasaki’s best-selling segments.

At its heart, the Z650 S continues to use the brand’s trusted 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine — a motor well known for its reliability and smooth delivery. While its 180-degree crankshaft setup remains unchanged — a design that traces its heritage back to the 2006 ER-6 family — Kawasaki has optimised it for stronger low- and mid-range torque, keeping the ride lively yet approachable. Output figures haven’t been finalised, but expect around 67 bhp and 47 lb-ft of torque, matching the current Z650.

The biggest updates come in the ergonomics department. The new fat-bar handlebar is 30mm wider, the footpeg positions have been revised, and both the rider and pillion seats have been reshaped for enhanced comfort. The rider now sits about 20mm higher on a more supportive seat, while the passenger benefits from extra width and padding. Optional taller and lower seat variants will also be available, catering to different rider sizes.

Visually, the Z650 S adopts a more muscular stance, featuring redesigned bodywork, a three-part LED headlight, and modern LED indicators and taillight. Despite the more substantial tank area, Kawasaki claims the bike remains easy to handle and confidence-inspiring for riders of varying heights.

Tech lovers will appreciate the new 4.3-inch TFT display, which connects seamlessly to the Kawasaki Rideology app for smartphone integration. The display automatically switches between light and dark modes based on ambient light and offers customisable layouts for a personalised cockpit experience.

Under the skin, the tubular steel trellis frame stays true to the Z-series formula, ensuring predictable handling and stability. Braking performance comes from dual 300mm front discs and a 220mm rear, now managed by a Continental ABS system for improved safety. Additional upgrades include standard traction control, a slipper clutch, a USB-C charging port, and an optional upshift-only quickshifter.

The 2026 Z650 S will be offered in three striking colour schemes: Carbon Grey, Lime Green/Carbon Grey, and Metallic Matte Graphene Steel Grey/Black. Pricing details will be announced closer to launch, but with its blend of comfort, connectivity, and everyday usability, the new Z650 S looks set to remain a top choice in the middleweight naked class.

For riders who crave a machine that’s as ready for the weekday commute as it is for weekend rides, Kawasaki’s latest Z650 S strikes a confident and stylish balance between heritage and innovation.
